Idaho's Wild Orchids
Instructor: Dr. Lynn Kinter, lead botanist, Idaho Department of Fish & Game
Orchids seem to most of us an exotic species ...Think again! Would you believe Idaho is home to 28 native orchids? These exotic beauties occur in a surprising array of colors, shapes, and sizes, from the dainty fairy slipper, which is bright pink, to the giant stream orchid, which is peach and green. A few lack chlorophyll and parasitize other plants. Some attract insect pollinators in unusual ways.
Dr. Lynn Kinter, will demonstrate the unique traits of the orchid family and Idaho species. And also discuss how you can search for wild orchids, some of which can be found in the mountains above Boise and the valleys near Cascade and McCall.
