This guide was developed to facilitate accurate identification of native and nonnative wildlife. It contains color coded bars across the top of each page to indicate the general classification of the animal (mammal, bird, reptile or amphibian, insect), the general activity pattern or presence in the Boise Foothills, widely used common names of species, the recognized scientific name, characteristics for identification, interesting facts, and other animal attributes.

This guide was developed to assist foothills users and residents in identification of the more common native and nonnative plants in this area. It does not include all of the plant species found in the foothills and it does not include plants growing along streams or in wetland areas. However, you will find extremely useful Information on plants that are native to Idaho, important to wildlife and insects, rare, and flammable. It also points out noxious weeds to watch out for.
