The Boise River Enhancement Network (BREN) is once again partnering with the University of Idaho to catch crayfish for the Crayfish Mercury Project. This multi-year project measures the level of mercury in Crayfish which helps determine if crayfish and other fish caught from the river are safe for humans to eat.
This is a family friendly event and a great science project for children to participate in. A University of Idaho graduate student will be on site along with BREN professionals to answer questions about crayfish and the Boise River. Please note, although the U of I is looking into methods to test for mercury that preserve the life of the crayfish, at this point in time the crayfish are humanely killed after the crayfishing has ended for the day.
The first location is Reid Merrell Park at 637 E Shore Drive in Eagle. Please park in the lot and walk on the pathway past the playground towards the river. Look for the BREN table.
The other location is at Linder and the Boise River at 375 S Linder Rd, Eagle. There is a small parking lot on the west side of Linder to park in.
